Ricardo Gomez (b. 1996, Detroit, Michigan) is a Ypsilanti-based artist whose paintings explore identity and the forces that shape who we are. Informed by four years of monastic life and his Mesoamerican Indigenous ancestry, his work asks how much of who we are is inherited, conditioned, or consciously created. Through painting, he reflects on how the past shapes the present, seeking a deeper understanding of himself and a sense of grounding within change.
